چکیده
In endemic centres of cholera such as Calcutta and in areas where cholera occurs in epidemic form, vibrios can be isolated not only from cholera cases but also from contacts, healthy individuals, waters, flies and other sources. These vibrios may be divided into two great classes, vibrios that are agglutinable by ** specific cholera serum and those that are not agglutinable by this serum. The characters 01 these two classes of vibrios are given below:-" Class I. Vibrios agglutinable by cholera

Expression of Recombinant Protein B Subunit Pili from Vibrio Cholera
Background & Aims: Vibrio cholerae is a gram-negative bacterial pathogen that causes cholera disease. Following ingestion by a host and entry into the upper intestine, V. cholera colonizes and begins to emit enterotoxin. One of the most pathogenic factors of Vibrio cholera is toxin-coregulated pili (TCP). ToxinCoregulated pili is as the primary factor requiered for the colonization and insisten...
متن کاملComparison of Distribution of Virulence Determinants in Clinical and Environmental Isolates of Vibrio cholera
Background: The virulence of a pathogenic Vibrio cholerae is dependent on a discrete set of genetic determinants. In this study, we determined the distribution of virulence determinants among the clinical and environmental isolates of V. cholerae. Methods: The antibiotic resistance profiles of the isolates were determined using standard disk diffusion assay. PCR assay was performed to analyze t...

Knowing the nucleotide sequence of the cholera toxin operon, we designed oligonucleotide primers for its-PCR amplification from local clinical isolates of V. cholerae. The resulting amplification product was cloned in a common pUC18 vector. Subsequently, a part of this operon encoding the cholera toxin Bsubunit (CTB) was reamplified and cloned between the BamH1 and EcoR1 sites of the same ...
متن کاملGenetic Diversity of ctxB Gene Among Classical O1 and El Tor Strains of Vibrio cholerae using High-Resolution Melting Curve Analysis
Background & Objective: Vibrio cholerae is a natural inhabitant of the environment and causes severe diarrhea ailments (cholera) that affects thousands of people each year worldwide. The most important virulence factors of this pathogen are cholera toxin (cholera toxin CT) and Type IV...
متن کاملMutation of Cholera Vibrios
In a previous communication (1931) we showed that colonies obtained from the direct plating of a cholera stool may be variable in their agglutinability to a cholera standard serum and in their lysability to the cholera bacteriophage. Some colonies escape infection by bacteriophage present in the stool, and are lysable by the filtrate of the stool from which they themselves were isolated. From t...
